About this deal

These compromises in picture quality might well be a deal breaker in a different projector, but in the Nebula Mars II, they feel like an acceptable trade-off for the convenience, ease of use and – above all – fun you get in return. Well... it's not really. I've had the projector for a few days now, I've set it up, messed with all the settings, and I am underwhelmed. I am using it directly with my PC, plugged into my graphics card. It is sitting upside down on top of a high cabinet and projecting a 130" image onto a white wall with no screen. At night there is no ambient light coming into the room, but it has white walls and somewhat reflective surfaces so it hasn't been optimized for projection. I am using a small amount of vertical lens shift, around 20%. So that's the setup. In terms of limitations, the technology has a slower response time compared to DLP – much like LCD TVs – and thus the motion handling isn’t as good. In addition, the light path in an LCD projector isn’t sealed, so it can occasionally suffer from those dreaded dust blobs.

In fact, the N5 produces some of the best HDR images you’ll experience from a projector at this price. The dynamic tone mapping at play here does a great job of creating a natural but effective HDR performance that keeps the image bright and far outclasses the competition. This latter category offers a wide selection of projectors, ranging from basic 1080p beamers to higher-end versions that support 4K and HDR. What they all have in common is the company’s 3LCD technology, which uses three LCD panels to produce the images.Epson hardly needs an introduction, and the Japanese giant manufacturers every kind of projector, from the data grade units you often see in classrooms to more sophisticated models aimed squarely at the home cinema market.

I should say that I used Natural mode for maximum color accuracy, which appears quite close to Cinema mode. Vivid mode looks ridiculous as expected, not recommended. I also did not find that the auto iris feature did much. It is disabled by default on Natural mode, and I decided to keep it that way after initial testing. With Epson’s 4K PRO-UHD projectors, you get a holistic approach to image performance over and above the ability to receive, process and project 4K content. Great images are the result of a combination of technologies coming together, including equal colour and white brightness, 3LCD technology, contrast control, HDR10 and colour processing. Similarly, with a film more heavily graded for colour and texture, such as Fargo, there are different changes to make. Both colour saturation and particularly the image sharpening tools take careful tuning to avoid ruddy skin tones and a noisy picture. The Noise Reduction filter is excellent in this instance. At 2.5kg, it’s also nice and light, so you can move it around in your house, or even take it with you to a mate’s house, if you’re feeling particularly dedicated to the cinematic gaming cause. The trade-off is that, while the rounded edges and glossy white finish are nice, it feels a little lightweight and plastic-y.

The EH-TW9400’s 2.1x optical zoom lens means it can produce an image from 50in up to 300in, and with a bright 2,600 lumens to play with, it’ll even play ball in a lighter room. Pros: Outstanding picture across the board; great colour handling; easy to setup; good spec for the money Cons: A little noisy; occasional motion hiccups

Feel immersed in your home entertainment with an engaging big screen experience. This projector can create a display size of up to 500″, can play 2D and 3D content, and boasts noise-cancelling technology. Lens shift, zoom and keystone correction ensure that your picture is exactly where you want it to be. We play Venom on 4K Blu-ray and this projector explodes into life from the start, with some excellent HDR handling and dark detail in the opening shuttle crash scene. The light levels run from the dark forest shadows to the extreme brightness of the floodlights. Despite this range, the tone of the scene is expertly controlled.Measuring 410‎x310x157 mm and weighing 6.9kg, the 3800/EH-TW7100 is not exactly travel-friendly, though it’s easy enough to fetch from a cupboard for special occasions. Since the stereo speakers are mounted on the rear, we’re talking a coffee table kinda setup for the 3800/EH-TW7100, where its curved corners create a look that’s just about soft enough, design-wise. That might seem a bit of a shame considering the capabilities of today’s consoles, but when the SDR images are as clean, bright and crisp as they are here, it’s actually not a bad trade off at all. If you’re planning a home cinema, Epson has you covered regardless of your requirements or budget. There are competitively-priced 1080p projectors for those with limited funds, and very bright models for rooms with white walls or ambient light. Easy to set up and access content: Stream content by plugging devices into either of the two HDMI ports Another triumph for Epson; this is the best entry-level 4K home cinema projector around.” ’What Hi-Fi?’ – 5 Star review.

The EH-TW6150 also has a few advantages over the EH-TW7000 that I neglected to mention. It has better power efficiency, the lamp uses 70W less and lasts 7,500 hrs on Eco (Low) mode. It has a much more attractive look IMO, and can be positioned upside down if needed, perfectly flat without any wobbling. Based around Epson's own 3LCD engine, the 3800/EH-TW7100 is also capable of projecting in sizes from 40-inches to up to 500-inches in diameter, which is … way too big. However, this is a projector that’s as much about convenience as core quality. Cue its built-in 10W speakers and, more impressively, Bluetooth audio connectivity, which sees the 3200/EH-TW7000 able to stream wireless audio to a soundbar or speaker - a handy feature if you want even better sound. Pros: Easy to use; simple to set up; convenient all-in-one design; good picture quality in a dark room; decent audio for casual use Cons: Colours are so-so; not bright enough for daytime use Epson have a number of great home cinema projectors available with a model to suit every budget. To make it easier, we have produced the below comparison table to show you what features you can expect to get for your money..

Whether you’re gaming, watching movies or the big sports event, nothing beats the thrill of a big screen. The EH-TW7000 offers an effortless 100” display in most rooms (at a distance from the wall of 2.95m), plus the ability to expand this five times, given a big enough space. Really appreciate your help here as I have never seen a treated home cinema room or ALR screen in action so dont have a solid feel for their relative benefits. My room is a large attic space and the PJ is 5.65m from the screen (in its current location, movement is possible but not desired) giving me a throw ratio of 1.8. I believe this is sufficient for an ALR screen. I have returned the TW7000 and am now looking at a 7400 or even 9400 but would really need the room treated to take advantage of the 9400. The slightly lower lumen level compared with its pricier siblings means that this projector really will be at its best in a very dark room, and it’ll be in this environment that you’ll see what the N5 is really capable of.
