Most people seem to enjoy my books and many see them as refreshingly different from the typical titles in the genre. There are some challenging themes here – I read Matt Haig’s How to Stop Timeearlier this year, where the main protagonist has a condition which means he ages extremely slowly.

This book, the 1000-year-old boy is a meaningful, beautiful book which showed me that not everything may be lost. The narrative POVs are all of highschool aged children, if albeit one of them is actually 1000 years old as the title suggests.

I have read this one lots, and it is still like you are reading it for the first time every time you read it.

This book does not presume to be at all a look at historical fiction, despite Alfie's Viking-linked past.This really worked as apart from Alfie narrating his life story, through Aidan’s words we also get to know a real perspective of how the outside world sees him. Determined to bring an end to his endless existence, he sets out on a dangerous mission to find the last life pearl, before it is too late. Told from the alternate perspectives of Alfie and his new friend Aidan, brought together by the strong and funny Roxy Minto, it thoughtfully explores issues such as grief, bullying, isolation and responsibility. Of course it isn't a witch, it's a woman whose given up on society and gotten sick of hiding from authorities and changing her identity.

You could also use the opening scenes from Disney-Pixar’s ‘Up’ to look at writing flashbacks, the passage of time and similar themes of loss and ageing.He is afraid of being betrayed and left behind: Alfie’s old friend Jack inevitably grew out of their friendship and enlisted in the army — not only did Jack make fun of Alfie’s ‘growth problem’ but he became so unsettled by Alfie’s agelessness that he used his military authority to cause Alfie and his mother to flee the country during the war. In The 1,000 Year Old Boy, Alfie wants to be like any other 11 year old, which is a bit tricky when he's actually over a thousand years old. In the book, Alfie wanted to find life pearls right after when his mother passed away, which I can say that it was the only hope for him- to start growing again. They will help to assess the understanding of the text, characterisation and attitudes along with promoting deep discussion on inference and impression of characters using evidence.
