About this deal

The undeclared personal involvement of the lead officer is well handled and helps the book get off to a promising start with a sense of danger/disclosure that threatens the whole murder hunt. The various "killers" in the frame also adds to the confusion and gets your mind working right from the start. With an immensely powerful and gritty prologue to get the juices flowing, I knew instantly that this was going to be my type of crime thriller - loving a sinister serial killer to read about. Mari Hannah captured my attention straight away with this fabulous example of a police procedural and as an added bonus was set in my local area too.

Witnesses:

During your novel’s progression, there will be many tidbits of information that you can add to each Murder Wall paper — secrets from their past, important clues and more. The key to writing a good mystery is to mislead the reader and drop clues in the guise of foreshadowing. Twists and turns are important elements of a good crime novel or mystery. And don’t forget to list any bad habits your character might have. If she is a compulsive liar, make a note. If he’s a shifty-eyed procrastinator, the note on his paper will act as a reminder and keep you consistent. As each character develops, continue to add any new information to each sheet. Plots change and characters mutate. They grow, they learn things, and they react.

Only after the book went out on submission – and rejections poured into my inbox with alarming regularity – did the uneasy feeling that I may have committed professional suicide dawn on me. The Murder Wall chronicles six different attempts to climb the North Face of The Eiger, one of mountaineering’s most difficult challenges. All this made me turn away from the story. Knowing that I was a film-maker, parents I’d meet would say: “Wow, what a story – that would make a great movie.” I thought: “Would it?” Here’s a story we’ve heard many times before in fiction, revolving around a man who kills a woman. The name Kim Wall was barely mentioned by the press, compared with the name of the culprit. The murder of Kim Wall, known in Denmark as Ubådssagen ( transl. "The submarine case"), [2] took place on 10 August 2017, after Swedish freelance journalist Kim Wall boarded the midget submarine UC3 Nautilus, in Køge Bugt, Denmark, with the intent of interviewing its owner, Danish entrepreneur Peter Madsen.

Creating the Murder Wall:

This was an appalling murder aggravated by the earlier robbery," Judge Jameson said, before sentencing Ramsdale to life in prison with a minimum of 33 years. I've been asked what challenges I faced writing crime fiction with a lesbian protagonist. The truth is, there weren't any. They came much later as I submitted my work to agents and publishers. At the time, I was just writing a crime novel about a clever detective who just happened to be gay, much like my real-life partner – a Northumbria police officer for 30 years, a murder detective for much of her career. And why wouldn't I? To me it seemed the obvious and most natural thing to do. The suspects include the victim's ex-wife, his current wife, and maybe even his two sons. He wasn't a very likeable guy. The evidence though begins to point to one person specifically. This makes Kate very uneasy. She can't bring herself to believe this person capable of the crime. Her view may be a bit skewed because of her prior knowledge causing her to approach this case in a way she wouldn't otherwise.

Undercurrent: The Disappearance of Kim Wall (Documentary, Biography, Crime), Abstract, Anchor Entertainment, Anonymous Content, 8 March 2022 , retrieved 15 May 2022 It was very early on in The Murder Wall when I knew Mari Hannah was going to be an author that writes the kind of gritty and dark crime fiction that I just love to read, and I really think this is a series that I will enjoy a lot. The Murder Wall is a solid police procedural, with just the right amount of detail about police work and policies, some authors have a tendency to go into too much detail and the story itself did keep me guessing for the most part because of a good mix of suspects, and it excited me enough that I wanted to read on. Developing a fictional crime and its cast of characters can be confusing and overwhelming without a tool to keep everything organized. A Murder Wall shows the structure of the crime and the characters who are involved. On a wall close to your computer for easy access, tape up letter-sized pieces of paper featuring photos and key points on each character linked to a murder or crime. This technique enables the writer to visualize the cast of characters more fully, to give each suspect or victim a face and to bring them to life. It ensures that the basic facts of each character’s existence are easily accessible. And it keeps you consistent with the facts of the crime and the evidence presented. Creating the Murder Wall:Eleven months after discovering a brutal double murder in a sleepy Northumbrian town, Detective Chief Inspector Kate Daniels is still haunted by her failure to solve the case. Then the brutal killing of a man on Newcastle's Quayside gives Daniels another chance to get it right, and her first case as Senior Investigating Officer. When Daniels recognises the corpse, but fails to disclose the fact, her personal life swerves dangerously into her professional life. But much worse, she is now being watched. As Daniels steps closer to finding a killer, a killer is only a breath away from claiming his next victim... D'Addario, Daniel (29 January 2021).
